Smart Women Publish is a full-service business
turning ideas and expertise into published non-fiction books.
I am Bev Ryan, and I work with busy, enterprising women who have a burning desire to finally get their book idea(s), experience, and knowledge into the world. I’m here as your book coach and book production manager, guiding you through everything from that first “I think I want to write a book” moment all the way to holding your finished book in your hands.
Whether you’re a business woman wanting to share your story and/or establish your expertise, or a professional looking to be noticed and advance your career, I help you plan, write, and self-publish quality non-fiction books that not only showcase what you know but also fuel your personal and professional growth.
Clients have included educators, coaches, consultants, counsellors, lawyers, psychologists, doctors, engineers, financial experts, artists, architects, design experts, mediums, corporate leaders, retired professionals, and more.
My job is to make sure the whole process feels manageable and exciting rather than overwhelming and stressful, so your voice and your message reach the people who are looking for exactly what you have to share.
ABOUT BEV RYAN:
Working with individuals and groups as an Author Accelerator Certified Book Coach, and as the production manager of clients’ quality books, I personally take care of a small number of authors at any time, available as your one point of contact, working flexibly online from my home office.
My own journey into the world of publishing began in my mid-40s when, as a mum of four, I found myself at a career crossroad: I had no desire to return to my former career as a secondary school English teacher (BA. DipEd), but what else could I do? Luckily, I stumbled across a book that changed my life course – ‘I Could Do Anything If Only I Knew What It Was’, by Barbara Sher.
I can passionately affirm that books DO change lives, because that book certainly changed mine.
In 1997, well before home-based business and self-publishing were trends, I took the bold step of publishing my own magazine, ‘Work From Home’, followed a decade later by a second award-winning women’s magazine, ‘Honestly Woman’. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of seeing a publication you started from scratch on the news stands, and eventually I decided I would love to share that feeling with other women who also have a dream to publish their own work, even though they lack experience and have frequent bouts of self-doubt, just as I did.
I also became a qualified career coach in 2003, and in 2009 I went on to form the Women’s Publishing Network, running monthly workshops to coach and support hundreds of motivated women discovering the thrill and increasing accessibility of self-publishing.
My happy place definitely sits at the intersection of the professional power of publishing and the author’s personal development in the process.
Book authorship & self-authorship go hand-in-hand.
In 2012, I slowly established my own boutique one-stop publishing service, managing the production and quality of clients’ books by working with hand-picked freelance editors and designers (as I had done with my magazines), and in 2019 I published my own book, ‘Smart Women Publish’.
Then in 2022 I became an Author Accelerator certified non-fiction book coach (which includes the self-help/memoir hybrid) after a rigorous program of training and practical assessments.
By now integrating book planning and production services WITH recommendations for tactical book marketing services, SWP’s publishing services can become an integral part of your larger business and personal growth plans.

→ Business Owner – I’ve built my own successful business and understand how books become powerful business tools
→ Former Magazine Publisher – I founded two successful niche magazines, both sold via newsagencies: ‘Work From Home’ (1997) and award-winning ‘Honestly Woman’ (2006)

What makes me different:
- Real-world experience – I’ve helped people from a great variety of industries to capture their value in words and be fully recognised, in my roles as a career coach and book coach, and have vast career experience myself. I have also been where you are as a business owner, finding the confidence to reveal myself in print.
- Free of hype and over-promising – Your success will come from leveraging your book in expected and unexpected ways over a long period. I do not promote the false ‘Amazon best-seller’ status, fast ‘6-figure results’, and ‘write a book in a weekend’.
- Well-connected & trusted – I also connect you with trusted professionals to support you in aligned areas when required
- Business mindset – Your book must serve your personal & business goals
- Proven frameworks – No reinventing the wheel. I use the Author Accelerator book blueprint method developed by Jennie Nash, who has coached many traditionally & independently published authors to write best-sellers.
- Personal attention – You get the guidance, accountability and availability you deserve
FINALIST – 2021 INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARDS (Business: Personal Finance/Investing Category): ‘When I handed over my manuscript to Bev, I didn’t know how much work was involved behind the scenes, although I thought I understood the publishing process from my research. After I started working with Bev, I realised how beneficial it was to work with a professional and an experienced person like her to help me effectively navigate through the process.’
